Welcome Message from the President / Patron
The 5th Ocean Decade Conference marks another important step in affirming Cabo Verde as an active, responsible and mobilising voice in the global Ocean agenda. Within the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting knowledge, innovation, inclusive governance, and solutions that place the Ocean at the heart of sustainable development.
This year, Boa Vista Island hosts the conference, bringing the symbolic strength of a territory where land and sea meet in a delicate and precious balance. Under the theme “Blue Economy: Sustainable Pathways”, this edition invites us to rethink models, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate actions that ensure ecological, social, and economic resilience.
I invite researchers, academics, students, policy makers, civil society organisations, the private sector, coastal communities and young leaders to join us. Together—sharing knowledge, experiences, and commitment—we can build a future in which the Ocean continues to be life, identity, and opportunity for Cabo Verde and for the world.

About the 5th Conference
The 5th Ocean Decade Conference will take place on 23–24 July 2026 on Boa Vista Island, under the theme “Blue Economy: Sustainable Pathways”. It is part of the Presidency’s strategy to consolidate Cabo Verde as an international platform for reflection, dialogue, and knowledge production within the UN Decade of Ocean Science.
Following previous editions held in Santiago, São Vicente, Sal, and Fogo, this conference reinforces ocean science as a basis for public policy, accelerates the development of the Blue Economy, strengthens international cooperation, and mobilises communities, youth, researchers, and diverse partners.
Boa Vista’s biodiversity and sensitive ecosystems make it an ideal setting for a conference that seeks balance between development, conservation, and resilience.
